I want to start by being transparent — my first impression of Garden State Veterinary Hospital was not great. When I called during my dog's emergency, I was immediately put on hold with no greeting and waited over 10 minutes before hanging up. In contrast, when I called Red Bank Vet, someone answered right away and spoke with me about my situation immediately. Despite this, Garden State was closer and my senior dog Shishi needed immediate attention, so I made the decision to go. I'm so glad I did — because of Dr. Jen Hoover. Shishi, my 15-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, was having a seizure-like episode when we arrived. The team took her to the back immediately upon seeing her condition, which we appreciated. But what truly made this experience memorable was Dr. Hoover. There are genuinely not enough words to describe how grateful we are for her care. She treated us like family. Diagnosing a senior dog isn't straightforward or inexpensive, and we don't have pet insurance — yet at no point did Dr. Hoover feel pushy or transactional. She patiently and transparently walked me and my family through every test, every result, and every decision. She gave us the information we needed to make informed choices without ever making us feel pressured. Our interaction with her spanned two days as we returned for additional testing, and her consistency, warmth, and professionalism never wavered. Shishi was ultimately diagnosed with Addison's disease — something we may not have caught without Dr. Hoover's thorough approach. Doctors like Dr. Jen Hoover are the reason people trust hospitals with their beloved pets. She is a genuine asset to Garden State Veterinary Hospital and gives this practice an excellent reputation. A few areas for improvement worth noting: the phone experience needs significant work — being put on hold immediately with no greeting during a pet emergency is alarming and could cost you patients. Some front desk staff interactions could also be more consistently warm and professional. These are real gaps that contrast sharply with the exceptional clinical care inside. That said — if we ever face another emergency, we will absolutely return to Garden State specifically to work with Dr. Hoover again. She made a lasting impression on our entire family.
The Dr's my cat saw were excellent. Sorry it's not been always the case but I was very pleased with the care and concern they gave him
We are so glad we found Dr. Murphy. She's been helpful in guiding us through a trying situation. Many doctors would write off a 16 year old dog with recurring cancer. But she considers the whole picture, that she's a happy dog living a pretty good life and we aren't willing to give up on her because of a sarcoma on her leg. We know there will come a time……but our dog bounced right back after this latest surgery, was in great shape just hours later when we picked her up, and she's right back to her silly little self milking the extra treats and love she's getting. We are grateful.
from the beginning dr WOELFEL was excellent, caring, very informative, took the time to explain everything, and my Lily liked him also !!!!
I have loved the experience with the whole staff ever since my dogs surgery 12 weeks ago. Shout out to Dr. Murphy , Dr. Park and all the other people behind the scenes I didn't meet
Dr Morges and her vet techs have been amazing advocates for healing our dog. Really impressed with the expertise and quality of care.
